The hydraulic bamboo cutter is a piece of machinery specifically designed for pruning and harvesting bamboo forests. When attached to engineering vehicles such as excavators, it enables rapid bamboo cutting and felling. Its core function involves using a hydraulic system to power the cutting mechanism, delivering efficient and precise cuts; it is suitable for large-scale bamboo forest management, landscaping, and forestry operations.
Powered by the excavator's hydraulic system, the cutter receives hydraulic fluid via high-pressure hoses leading to the cutting unit's hydraulic cylinder. The cylinder drives the blades to close; the blades are made of high-strength alloy steel with specially heat-treated edges-balancing hardness and toughness-allowing them to easily cut through bamboo with diameters up to 18 cm. Models range from the "6" to "18" series, with the number indicating the maximum cutting diameter (in centimeters), allowing users to select the appropriate model based on bamboo density and thickness. The cutting assembly features a detachable design, enabling individual blade replacement to reduce maintenance costs.
To operate, the cutter is mounted to the front of the excavator and connected to the host machine via hydraulic lines. The operator controls the cutting unit's angle and force using the excavator's hydraulic joysticks. Pre-operation checks must ensure hydraulic hoses are intact to prevent high-pressure leaks; during cutting, the blade should remain perpendicular to the bamboo to prevent slippage; and after two hours of continuous operation, the machine should be stopped to check for loose blade-fastening bolts. Customization is available-such as adjusting cutting angles or adding protective guards-though technical specifications must be discussed with the manufacturer in advance.
Compared to traditional manual felling, the hydraulic bamboo cutter offers more than five times the efficiency, capable of processing 5–8 'mu' (approx. 0.8–1.3 acres) of bamboo forest per day. Its hydraulic system includes overload protection, automatically releasing pressure when encountering hard objects like stones to prevent equipment damage. Weighing under 200 kg, the unit is compatible with most medium-sized excavators without requiring host machine modifications. It is suitable for applications such as raw material harvesting for bamboo processing plants, routine pruning in park bamboo groves, and clearing storm-damaged bamboo in mountainous areas. As it is hydraulically driven, no open flames are produced during operation, thereby reducing the risk of forest fires. Routine maintenance requires periodic replacement of the hydraulic oil (recommended every 500 operating hours), removal of residual bamboo chips from the blades, and inspection of the hydraulic cylinder seals for signs of aging. For long-term storage, the shearing mechanism should be lowered to its lowest position to prevent hydraulic oil backflow, which could cause startup difficulties. With proper use and regular maintenance, the service life of core components (such as hydraulic cylinders and blades) can reach over three years, while the design life of the entire machine exceeds eight years.
