When using a cordless angle grinder powered by a lithium battery, it is essential to distinguish between the positive and negative terminals to prevent safety incidents.
Typically, the polarity is marked on the battery itself, with the positive terminal usually indicated by a "+" sign and the negative terminal by a "-" sign. However, if the terminals are not clearly marked, you can determine them using the following methods:
Examine the battery casing: Generally, the positive and negative terminals are located at opposite ends of the casing; observing the casing allows you to identify their positions.
Use a multimeter: You can use a multimeter to test the terminal positions. Touch the red probe to one terminal and the black probe to the other. If the multimeter displays a voltage reading, the red probe is in contact with the positive terminal; conversely, if the reading is negative (or if no reading appears depending on the meter type), the red probe is in contact with the negative terminal.
