Some customers may misunderstand the power specifications for angle grinders. It is important to distinguish between these two terms:
Rated Input Power: Also known as "rated power consumption," this refers to the total electrical power drawn from the power source when the angle grinder operates at its rated voltage. It indicates the level of power consumption and the electrical load on the circuit; this is the figure most commonly displayed on the tool's nameplate.
Output Power: This refers to the actual mechanical power delivered at the motor shaft-the power effectively used to drive the grinding or cutting disc. This figure directly determines the angle grinder's actual working capacity.
The relationship between the two is: Output Power = Input Power * Motor Efficiency. The motor efficiency of an angle grinder is typically around 50%, though it can be higher in some high-efficiency brushless motors. For example, a Bosch angle grinder with a rated input of 900W may have an output power of 450W, while a model with a 1200W input might have an output power of 630W.
