The primary reasons a cordless angle grinder stalls or fails to spin are abnormal battery power supply, mechanical jamming, or electrical system failure.
Battery Issues
Insufficient charge: A depleted battery or low voltage prevents the motor from starting; check the battery indicator and recharge.
Poor contact: Oxidation, dirt, or looseness at the connection point between the battery and the tool body; clean the contacts with a dry cloth and ensure the battery is properly seated.
Mechanical Jamming
Disc jam: Debris from the material being ground gets lodged between the disc and the guard; disconnect the power and clear the obstruction.
Gearbox failure: Internal gear wear or broken teeth cause transmission failure; professional repair or replacement is required.
Bearing/Rotor seizure: Caused by lack of lubrication over time or metal filings entering the mechanism; requires disassembly, cleaning, and the application of high-temperature grease.
Electrical Faults
Damaged switch: Internal contacts are burnt out; test continuity with a multimeter and replace with a switch of the same specifications.
Motor burnout: Winding short-circuits produce a burnt odor; professional testing of coil resistance and replacement of the motor assembly are required.
PCB control board failure: Brushless models may stop spinning due to damaged MOSFETs; return the unit to the manufacturer for inspection.
Operational Advice: First, check the battery level and look for disc jams. If the tool still fails to spin after ruling these out, contact official after-sales support for an internal inspection to avoid voiding the warranty through unauthorized disassembly.
